While all EV batteries are affected by extreme temperatures, Teslas are a special case worth explaining. In most cars, the on-board range estimate changes noticeably in very cold or very hot weather. Tesla, however, controls for temperature effects very tightly and often does not surface them to the driver — the dashboard range frequently looks the same regardless of conditions.

Tesla does this in two ways. First, they use a robust thermal management system to keep the battery within a healthy operational temperature range, warming it in winter and cooling it in summer. Second, Tesla calculates its on-board range using a fixed efficiency value rather than a dynamic one based on external factors. That means the number on your Tesla dashboard often holds steady across seasons, even though real-world range changes quite a bit.
