# Does Recurrent use OBD2?

Connecting your vehicle to Recurrent for Vehicle Insights does not require the use of a physical OBD reader. We connect to your car over the air via your vehicle manufacturer's connected services.

In order to perform detailed research on a small subset of Recurrent volunteer vehicles, some drivers received an OBD plug-in device via our Enhanced Analytics Program, funded by the National Science Foundation.
