What is Battery History?

Battery History shows a vehicle’s current estimated usable battery capacity compared to its full battery capacity when new.

For example, if your vehicle has a 100kWh battery when new, then 100% is 100kWh. Over time, it’s expected that usable battery capacity will decrease (you may only be able to use 92% of it, or 92kWh). The data points on the Battery History chart show Recurrent’s estimate of what percent of your total battery capacity can still be used over time.

What data does Recurrent use to calculate Battery History?

Recurrent collects data during charge sessions. This is how we can see the state of charge and the energy added to calculate the remaining battery capacity. Not every single charge session is used in the calculation, however, which is why you may not see every single time you charge reflected on your Battery History graph. This causes far less vampire drain than those other tools or apps, which wake Teslas very often.

Is Battery History the same as State of Health?

Each data point on the Battery History graph is Recurrent’s estimate of state of health at that point in time. As we collect many over time, we see the data points change (and often come down a little) and we get a fuller picture of the Battery History.

How is it calculated? Where is my battery's average State of Health?

To figure out the estimated usable battery capacity, we look at how much energy was added to the battery during charging and compare it to how much the battery's charge level changed. The points on the chart show these estimated values divided by how much energy the battery could hold when it was brand new. Once we have observed enough charging sessions with high-quality data, we will show you an averaged estimate of your battery’s health.

Why isn't my Battery History section showing any data?

In order to build up your Battery History chart, we need to catch your car while charging and receive enough high-quality data from which we can make an estimate about battery health. As a result, we cannot guarantee that the Battery History section of the Vehicle Insights will populate over a given timeframe, though we often gather enough data within 6 weeks.
