Why did my vehicle get disconnected from Recurrent?
Some disconnections can be remedied by reconnecting your car, while others are permanent.
Over the years, some Recurrent-connected drivers have experienced disconnections for a number of reasons. You may receive an email from Recurrent stating your vehicle is no longer connected.
- If you are a Nissan LEAF driver, you may have been disconnected from Recurrent when 3G cellular coverage was decommissioned in the US in early 2022. This affected LEAF model years 2015 and older. In 2023, Nissan third-party connectivity services for LEAFs were discontinued entirely; LEAFs can no longer connect to Recurrent.
- If you are a Rivian driver using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), your R1S or R1T may periodically be disconnected from Recurrent. This is universally true on the Rivian connected services platform. If you have Multi-Factor Authentication enabled, regardless of your Recurrent connectivity, you will be asked to sign in to your Rivian mobile app periodically. Rivian enforces so-called "token expiration" on MFA-enabled accounts for enhanced security, though it may be inconvenient to sign in regularly. There is no harm re-authenticating to Rivian when prompted by Recurrent.
- If you are a Ford driver, you may have experienced warnings from FordPass about "suspicious activity" on your account, accompanied by a disconnection from Recurrent. Ford's security protocol was updated to enhance driver account security, which also prevents most third-party connectivity. In the fall of 2023, Recurrent ended Ford connectivity support – hopefully temporarily – pending new news from Ford about third-party connectivity. If you previously had a Ford connected to Recurrent or have reached out to us about compatibility in the past, we will email you as soon as we know it is possible to reconnect your Ford to Recurent.
Here are some other reasons you may have been disconnected from Recurrent and received an email from us:
- Account password change: If you changed the password on your vehicle manufacturer's connected services account, your connection to Recurrent will require re-authentication in order to be re-established.
- Vehicle sale/disposal: If your vehicle no longer appears on your manufacturer's connected services account, you will be notified that we can no longer communicate with that vehicle. You can remove the vehicle from your profile and/or mark it as sold on your Recurrent Dashboard.
- Dealer maintenance: If your EV has visited a dealer service department for service, it may experience a temporary disconnection from Recurrent. If that service visit lasts more than a few days, we may notify you via email that we cannot connect to the car.
